To Protect and Serve
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008Oh, sorry, that expression is SO last-century. That credo is as quaint and outdated as our ratty old Constitution. It doesn’t apply anymore, since The World Changed™. Time for us to get with The Program.
Hail der Shrubbenführer!
From TheDenverChannel.com: “The Denver police union is selling T-shirts that poke fun at protesters at last month’s Democratic National Convention, but the main target isn’t laughing. …”
Neither am I.
Of Pitchforks and Panics
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008First, some words of wisdom from Abraham Lincoln, on January 11, 1837 ~ “It is an old maxim and a very sound one, that he that dances should always pay the fiddler. Now, sir, in the present case, if any gentlemen, whose money is a burden to them, choose to lead off a dance, I am decidedly opposed to the people’s money being used to pay the fiddler… all this to settle a question in which the people have no interest, and about which they care nothing. These capitalists generally act harmoniously, and in concert, to fleece the people, and now that they have got into a quarrel with themselves, we are called upon to appropriate the people’s money to settle the quarrel.”
And a recent, succinct summation of our current economic conundrum from Common Dreams forum member “matti” ~ “Criminal financial enterprises lent out money they didn’t have, then expected you to work and slave to pay back that “debt” (that they made by magic into an asset – for them) with REAL money. When you couldn’t do it, they had you kicked to the curb. And now, when too many of us have been screwed over in this way for them to pretend that these debts are really assets, they demand that YOUR Government use YOUR Treasury funds to bail them out!”
Yep.

Vets Climb Gov’t Building…
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008…Call for Arrest of Bush and Cheney
Right now, five military veterans — from Veterans for Peace — are occupying a 35-foot high ledge at the National Archive Building and have raised a 22×8-foot banner reading, “DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION. ARREST BUSH AND CHENEY: WAR CRIMINALS!” The veterans currently risking arrest have declared their intention to stay on the ledge, fasting for 24 hours “in remembrance of those who have perished and those still suffering from the crimes of the Bush administration,” according to a written statement.
Sarahcuda’s unReading List?
Monday, September 22nd, 2008Whatever happened to Free Will, the very backbone of Faith? Free Will requires choice; choice requires decision-making; decision-making requires knowledge; and acquisition of knowledge required chomping on Ye Ol’ Apple. (Why be damned for doing what you were REQUIRED to do?)
According to the lore, wasn’t Lucifer hisownself kicked out of the right-hand-of-God seat and punted to Perdition specifically because he wanted to force people to comply with The Plan, and His All-Knowingness declared that, that would mean nada?
We are SUPPOSED to think. If we were all meant to be alike, we might as well have been born sea slugs. (Or lemmings. (-;)
Emoticommentary
Monday, September 22nd, 2008In case anyone’s wondering (and many do), it’s the rest of the planet who make theirs backwards! *ROTFL*
I started making “emoticons” a lonnnng time ago — decades before they even had a name — back on an old ’60s Smith-Corona typewriter. At the time, it only made sense to me that the symbol would be smiling/frowning/whatever back at what had just been said.
After connecting to Crazy Ted’s Intertubes™ in the mid-90s, I noticed that everyone else was facing them the other way; but I stubbornly refused to change what I have always done. Afterall, if I were worried about “fitting in” and being boringly “normal” I’d have to trade my iMac in on a Windoze box!
“ewww……..” S’not gonna happen in this lifetime. (-:

Why Impeach Now?
Sunday, September 21st, 2008Many reasonable people believe that seeking the impeachment of the Deluded Decider (and his Dastardly Dick) at this late date would be a foolish waste of time; however, I respectfully disagree, for the following reasons:
1. Vincent Bugliosi, John Dean, Elizabeth Holtzman, Dave Lindorff & Barbara Olshansky, and others have fully documented the impeachable high crimes and misdemeanors that have been committed by this avarice-driven misadministration. On June 9, 2008, Dennis Kucinich formally read Thirty-Five Articles of Impeachment into the Congressional Record. The case has been made, as Vincent Bugliosi makes perfectly clear in his book (shown at right). The evidence already gathered is both well documented and incontrovertible.
sElection ‘08 Conventions
Saturday, September 20th, 2008This misadministration’s loyal, snakeskin-bootlicking minions are oh-so-busy keeping us safe from dangerously compassionate nuns and grandmas with butter knives; routing our private phone calls through secret rooms; preparing to read our brainwaves, knock us to the ground, and throw us into camps or psych wards – but never fear! The folks in Denver and St. Paul found the time to keep us safe from *us* too.
Since Rachel and Keith were stuck at the table, few in (our worse than worthless) corporate media were left to cover what was happening *outside* the hallowed halls of Campaigns Central, and those few who tried were duly rewarded punished.
It warms wrenches my heart to hear that law enforcement in Denver arrested a major TV network producer for trespassing *on a public sidewalk* [thanks for trying, dood!], that one of those pesky little CodePink women was bashed to the ground by the big bad he-man, and that cops entrapped and whupped on peaceful protestors.
Is Your Bank Healthy?
Saturday, September 20th, 2008The situation keeps getting scarier and scarier……
I just happened upon an official FDIC Failed Bank page with links to info that may be of help to any affected depositors.
Twelve have failed so far this year. (That doesn’t include the latest humongous quagmires: Lehman Bros since they declared bankruptcy rather than being seized, Merrill Lynch since the Feds arranged for Bank of America to buy them out, or AIG since it’s an insurance company.)
That evil Reptile Phil Gramm — the one who called US “whiners”! :-P — must be laughing his derrière off since he’s the one who obliterated Glass-Steagall (late in the Clinton administration), the rule that kept private commercial banks, investment banks, speculators et al. from commingling, taking the kind of risks and doing the kind of damage that they’ve done to each other and to far more innocent others.
